What you wrote is true. Hinduism is NOT a religion but a CULTURE with many religions in it. Almost all eastern religions like BUDDHISM, SIKHISM and to some extent JAINSISM originated from Hinduism.

I like to call Hinduism as HINDU CULTURE so that people will understand Hinduism better.

Not only Sanskrit but Himachal as you understand is high on literacy as well. Some of the youth have come together to put Himachal on the international map, by forming a website called HimVani. They call themselves as a think-tank of Himachal. And they are also Himachal's first citizen journalism effort.

Dear Sir,

I have read with interest the above article on teaching pundits the English translation of Sanskrit mantra's , and think that it is a very good idea.

I would , however , encourage people of Hindu Indian origin now living all over the world to study and learn Sanskrit, so that the beauty and Spiritual meaning of the Vedic texts are not lost , or looked upon as something not relevant to todays busy material world.

The Trustees of the various Religious Shrines are hiding the trust immovable properties and other properties in various occasions. The common people are known upto the idol but the trustees never shows audit and account to respectable person also. There are various cases of collecting large amount of grants/ donations from big temples such as Sidhivinayak Prabhadevi but not give true possition of the amount actually received and the amount actualy utilised.Hence the public never come to know the finantial matters of these persons.
There should be a complusiong over The trustees recieving foreign grants or donation to submit their allpassbooks concern entries, voucher of expenses and clearance by the RBI to the concern officer. The Charity commissioner's act should be amended accordingly to give wide powers to the authority concerned.
To Create a Temple,Religious Shrines is a way to create a good wealth. The properties of these registered or not registered trust should be registered with the government functionaries immediately as soon as the trustee start working any temple or related projects etc. The gift or donation whether it is cash or in kind the trustee should maintain / update Such appropriate register at time of such offerings and also the person offering such offering should received a valid receipt at the time of offerinf only. There should be a monitoring body which monitors the incoming and outgoing finances.

Speaking of database of traditional knowledge, and of archiving, as 'everyone' knows, Google is now going for broke scanning whole libraries (one of which is the U. of Oxford library). A good article with analysis of implications is in the May 14 issue of the NY Times: 'Scan This Book!' by Kevin Kelly: 'Kevin Kelly is the "senior maverick" at Wired magazine and author of "Out of Control: The New Biology of Machines, Social Systems and the Economic World" and other books.'
Interesting to think about the possibilities and implications for preserving and accessing those disappearing manuscripts/libraries/etc. that are so much integral to Hindu traditions...
