Bhargavi Mohan

Bhargavi Mohan, whose creative practice spans painting, narrative printmaking and illustration, is based in Maharashtra, India. She holds a bachelor’s degree in fine art and a masters degree in visual arts from Camberwell College of the Arts, London.

Bhargavi’s images draw on Indian mythology and illustrated picture books. They highlight the importance of wildlife conservation and the cultural significance of animals in ancient Hindu myths. In a contemporary twist to these ancient stories, she invites us to look beyond merely symbolic values and see animals as the tragic heroes of present-day urbanization. Their decline in population means that our planet is suffering an imbalance.

Alongside her studio practice, in which she experiments with the limitless possibilities of printmaking, Bhargavi has taught in schools, colleges and universities, viewing pedagogy as a reciprocal extension of her artistic work.
